Kung Fu for Adults

The ultimate in Martial Arts. This program has no limitations other than those of the student. It is based on the 1600 years of knowledge from the Shao-Lin Temples. The Shao-Lin Forms develops strength, endurance, speed, flexibility, and agility. Chin Na are techniques form the ancient Chinese art of hold and release. Chin Na emphasis is the principle of moving with an opponent's force rather than resisting, then redirecting that force back against the opponent.

The Shao-Lin Animal Forms contain the natural movements and behavior of animals. Styles such as the Snake, Tiger, and Dragon aid in the development of fluid movement, balance, agility, and physical conditioning.

Shao-Lin Weapons Forms such as the Spear, Staff, Sword, and Chain Whip are some of the forms used for training to help development strength, coordination, and flexibility.

What to Expect From the Martial Arts

The martial arts does not make the man, the man makes the martial arts. If a person has a bad attitude, he will not go very far in this, or any other martial art. His attitude will show in his performance and a bad example will be set. The result will be disrespect for that person and the martial arts he represents. However, the person with the right attitude will learn his martial art with greater purpose. That attitude will shine forth in his performance, a good example will be set and that person, and style will be greatly respected. When you begin martial arts training, the exercises and forms will seem awkward to perform. As time goes by, the pieces will fall in place, physically and mentally. a transformation takes place. Your friends will notice a subtleness to your motions. Your motions are deliberate, with purpose. You become aware of the movements of others without thinking. At first, learning will be mechanical (by memory, without thought of the meaning), then it becomes reflexive. Finally, knowing how to defend yourself in any situation, how much force to use, when to use your skills, and when to walk away will become second nature. This will be more than just a reflex action. It will become a part of your life, like walking or breathing.

What Goes On In Class

There is always a lot of activity going on in a martial arts class, and at first it all looks a little overwhelming to a new student. We usually start class with a 30 minute warm-up session that consists of stretching exercises, and strength building exercises. The class is then divided into belt ranks and then instructed in the material that they will be working on for that class. Each belt rank has their own amount of material before testing for the next belt level. The last part of class is for sparring. This is where the student takes what they have practiced in class and learns how to use the techniques to defend themselves. There is a lot of hard work that goes into the study of a martial art, and it takes a lifetime to master. It's never too late to start, if you have the determination, and will to learn.

How to Join Class

The best way to find out more about what a martial arts class is like is to come in for a visit. We offer one free class for anyone interested in joining. This way, you get a first-hand look at what goes in in class. It also gives the instructors a chance to see if the person is capable of learning the system of techniques that make up the Shaolin style. We offer classes for all age groups and for both men and women. In every class you will find a mix of young and old, male and female, and a variety of belt ranks from white to black. Please stop in for a visit, or free lesson. It's always good to see someone interested in the martial arts. Class is held every Monday from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the L. F.
